2022 BMW iX vs. 2022 Tesla Model X
Comparison of the BMW iX and Tesla Model X
The 2022 BMW iX is the first-ever fully-electric sports activity vehicle to be made by BMW. The engineers at BMW waited to produce a vehicle worthy of the BMW name and presented the world with the bold iX. The iX is one of the few EVs that competed with Tesla’s Model X. So let’s weigh which is better?
Style and Interior
BMW and Tesla have very different design styles. While Tesla aims for a minimalist exterior and unobtrusive design the BMW iX aims for boldness ad comfort. Both Models have similar size cabins for passengers. Tesla’s Model X has 60.7 inches of shoulder room and 41.7-inches of headroom. The 2022 iX has 61.5-inches of shoulder room and 42-inches of headroom. Both have a myriad of amenities inside the cabin. However, the interior of the iX includes better materials and convenient features. The BMW iX also does not burden the driver to learn a wildly new driving or operating system.
Battery and range
Tesla has the slightest of advantages in acceleration, going from 0 to 60 in 3.8 seconds. The BMW iX does the same at 4.4 seconds. All-wheel drive is standard for both but there are some differences in mile range and battery size. The 2022 iX has a 111.5 kWh battery and from a full charge can go 324 miles. The Model X has a 100 kWh battery and a mile range of 348. These differences are understandable since the iX weighs a whopping 474 pounds more than the Model X.
Lastly let’s compare maintenance. Tesla does not offer ANY sort of maintenance warranty. BMW however wants to take better care of their drivers and includes a maintenance warranty for 3 years or 36,000 miles. Both offer a basic level warranty of 4 years or 50,000 miles. If something does go wrong and requires a technician there are several service options to choose from however there are only two Tesla service centers in the DMV area.
