BMW’s iX continues to impress in 2025, maintaining its status as a top-tier electric SUV since its introduction in 2022. Similar in size to the BMW X5, the iX injects more luxury, advanced technology, and robust performance, making it a formidable competitor in the electric vehicle market. This year’s model sees minor but significant updates, reinforcing its position against rivals like the Mercedes-Benz EQE, Audi Q8 E-Tron, and the upcoming Maserati Grecale Folgore.

Design and Interior

The interior is what you’d expect from a flagship BMW product: Excellence. Minimalist but exuding sophistication, the iX’s cavernous interior offers seating for five and premium materials —whether you opt for the microfiber cloth, faux leather, or genuine leather upholstery. A highlight is the electrochromic panoramic sunroof, which can switch between clear and opaque settings in a blink of an eye.

Another highlight of the iX is its dual-screen setup—a 14.9-inch infotainment display seamlessly integrated with a 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster under a single pane of glass. The iDrive 8.5 system provides a user-friendly interface with customizable menus and voice-activated commands while standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 5G Wi-Fi hotspot, ensures seamless connectivity on the go.

Practicality and Cargo Space

Practicality isn’t compromised in the iX. It offers 35.5 cubic feet of cargo space with the seats up and an impressive 77.9 cubic feet with the seats folded down, making it ideal for daily errands or long-range road trips.

Performance and Handling

The iX comes in two flavors: the xDrive50 and the M60. The xDrive50 features dual motors generating 516 horsepower and 564 lb-ft of torque, delivering a 0-60 mph run of 4.4 seconds. For those seeking even more power, the M60 offers a staggering 610 horsepower and 749 lb-ft of torque, reducing the 0-60 mph run to a 3.6-second sprint. Both models are equipped with all-wheel drive.

Despite its hefty power, the iX manages to offer a comfortable and quiet ride. The adjustable air suspension system, available on both variants, along with rear-wheel steering ensures a smooth journey even on rough roads. The M60 includes stiffer anti-roll bars for better handling but sacrifices some ride comfort compared to the xDrive50.

Range and Charging

Equipped with a 105.2-kWh battery pack, the iX impresses with its range. The xDrive50 can achieve between 305 and 311 miles on a full charge, while the M60 manages around 296 miles, trading some range for performance. Real-world tests showed the iX achieving 290 miles at highway speeds, a commendable feat that outperforms many competitors.

Charging the iX is convenient, thanks to its DC fast-charging capability. A 200-kW charger can boost the battery from 10% to 80% in just 35 minutes. BMW has partnered with EVgo to expand charging infrastructure, though the iX is compatible with other networks and home Level 2 chargers as well.

Technology and Safety

Safety is standard on the 2025 BMW iX. Standard features include front automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, and automatic high beams. The optional $2,700 Driving Assistance Professional package adds adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, and a hands-free highway driving system. An eye-tracking feature that allows lane changes by simply looking at the rear-view mirrors is also available for 2025.
