Create Space In Your Closet This Season

As the seasons are beginning to change again, it’s a good idea to go through your closet and pare down the clothes that you don’t wear anymore. Use these closet organization tips to help you pare down your essentials, get rid of that particular piece you have had for far too long, and ultimately have the perfect wardrobe for the fall and winter seasons.
Edit Your Wardrobe
To begin organizing your space, go through your entire wardrobe piece by piece and sort it into four piles: Keep, Store, Donate/Sell, and Repair. The keep pile should contain clothes you know you will wear again next spring/summer and the clothes that you know you will wear this winter/fall. Heading into fall, the store pile will be the clothes that you only wear during the warmer months, and the repair pile should be anything that is stained, needs to be dry-cleaned, altered, etc. Finally, the donate/sell pile is anything you don’t love or wear very often that is taking up space in your closet. Keep in mind that the more you get rid of at this stage the more refined and intentional your wardrobe will be.
Store Your Summer Clothes
Now that you know what you’re keeping for next year, it’s time to safely store your spring and summer clothing. If your closet is big enough to keep all of your clothing in it year-round, be sure to move out-of-season clothes to the top shelves or far corners so that your fall and winter clothes are front and center.
If your closet doesn’t have space for your warm-weather items, invest in a few weathertight storage bins for under your bed or in other closets throughout the house. You can fold clothing items into these bins for easy storage and hang items like dresses or summer suits in a spare closest.
Donate And Sell
For high-end items, consider consigning them at a local or online consignment shop where they can find a new home. If you have lightly-worn work attire, consider donating it to a non-profit so that those in need can dress for success, too. And finally, your casual items can be taken to a local thrift store for donations.
Repair And Clean Fall Items
Repairing and cleaning all of your fall clothes before you actually need them sets you up for an easy transition once the weather truly cools down. If you have sweaters with holes, boots that need shining or resoling, or any nicer items that need to be dry cleaned, now is the time to take care of those honey-do items.
